Gospel & Mission Class
The next Gospel & Mission Class will begin soon after our January 11 launch of Weekly Worship Gatherings.
What is the Gospel & Mission Class?
This class is designed to be the first point of connection for those considering Second Mile as their church home, for a season or for a lifetime. This class explores basic, biblical theology and how this teaching plays out philosophically and practically in the way we embody the mission and message of Jesus to the community in which we live. Additionally, Gospel & Mission classes sometimes serve as an incubator for new Missional Communities.
What is the format of the Gospel & Mission Class?
This class is an 8-week experience that is led by at least one of the Second Mile elders and at least one Missional Community leader. The content covers the following material:
1. Scripture
2. The Triune God
3. Creation, Man, and Sin
4. Salvation by Grace
5. The Missional Church
6. Servanthood
7. Stewardship
8. Church Life at Second Mile & Membership Covenant
Who should take the Gospel & Mission Class?
The Gospel Class is open to everyone. If it's your first week at Second Mile Church, if you believe in Jesus or not, this introductory class is a great place to get started for those who are merely curious and for those who are excited to get connected. We do ask that everyone considering Second Mile to be their church take this class to assess how they feel about God, the gospel, and what we believe, praying for discernment and growth as they choose a local body of believers to call their family.
How much does the Gospel & Mission Class cost?
The class costs $10 per person and includes childcare, weekly refreshments, printed materials and a copy of Christian Beliefs: Twenty Basics Every Christian Should Know by Dr. Wayne A. Grudem. We do not want the cost of the class to prevent anyone from participating, and scholarships are available if needed.
Is the Gospel & Mission Class required to become a member of Second Mile Church?
This class is required to become a member; we ask anyone interested in becoming a member to walk with us through our foundational theology and philosophy. Whether you became a Christian yesterday, or have a Masters in Divinity, there are no exceptions.
